Glenfarclas 25 Year Old, London Edition is an expression bottled to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of The Whisky Exchange. Founded in 1999 by brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh, the company has become a global benchmark in the world of spirits over the years.
The Whisky Exchange originates from the business of the founders' parents, who opened "The Nest" in 1971, becoming the first family of Asian origin to obtain an alcohol license in the UK. Following their parents' retirement in 1999, the Singh brothers closed the physical store to bet on an online portal—a risky and visionary step for the time.
In 2021, The Whisky Exchange was acquired by the French giant Pernod Ricard, though the founders remain involved in the operation. TWE is distinguished by its massive catalog of over 9,000 labels ranging from accessible bottles to collector's pieces. They currently have divisions such as Elixir Distillers, where they select casks for exclusive store releases, such as the bottle featured in today's review.
The Glenfarclas 25 Year Old, London Edition is one of the gems released for the 20th anniversary. Unlike the standard Glenfarclas 25, bottled at 43%, this edition is presented at a higher strength (50.5%) with a profile designed to pay tribute to the hospitality industry. A limited edition matured for a quarter-century in Oloroso Sherry casks, only 606 bottles were produced.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Prune, walnuts, pepper, orange peel, and orange blossom.
Taste: Sweet, oily, cinnamon, apple, chocolate notes, and a hint of ginger.
Aftertaste: Long, warm, and sweet; dried fruits and subtly woody.
Fun Fact: The label was created by Raj Chavda, TWE’s Creative Director, and features scenes referencing London's bars and nightlife.
